
Ihe Architecture program offers three different graduate degrees with the Masters of Architecture as the professionally-accredited degree. In addition, the program also offers a Master of Arts in Architecture, and a Ph.D. in Architecture, as well as a Graduate Certificate in Facility Management.
Masters of Architecture (professional degree)
For those seeking to practice as a registered architect, obtaining a professional degree is an essential aspect of preparing for the professional practice of architecture. Our program has two graduate tracks:
Track II is a 2+ year program for students entering with a pre-professional baccalaureate degree in architecture (“4+2” model); more
Track III is a 3+ year program for those with a baccalaureate degree outside of architecture (students with a 4-year pre-professional degree in architecture may seek advanced placement). more
Graduate Certificate in Facility Management
This 15-credit graduate certificate program is focused on current and specialized developments in the many areas covered by professional facility managers-from space forecasting, facility assessment and project management to environmental health, disaster preparedness and personnel management. more
Master of Arts in Architecture
For the post-professional MA in Architecture, there are two distinct programs. The first course of study is a research-based academic program on the Lawrence campus. It is for the student who is interested in exploring various approaches in analyzing the built environment. A student with an undergraduate degree in architecture or a related discipline may enter this course of study. To receive the master’s degree, each student must complete an academic or design-related project or must take a comprehensive exam at the end of the plan of study.
The second course of study is the architectural management post-professional program, on the KU Edwards Campus in Kansas City. This course of study
focuses on management issues in the practice of architecture . It is structured to be completed on a part-time basis. more
Ph.D. in Architecture
This degree requires a minimum of 49 credits and is for students seeking to enhance the body of knowledge in the discipline of architecture. Because of this desire, Ph.D. students at KU are viewed as colleagues and collaborators with our faculty and as such, as valuable resources. The degree prepares students for careers in academia, consulting, practice-based research, or work in the public sector. more
Master of Architecture / Master of Urban Planning Joint Degree
For students interested in exploring issues of architecture from both a design and planning/policy perspective, the School offers a joint M.Arch./M.U.P. degree program. more
