Intern Development Program - 6-month rule

The Intern Development Program (IDP) is a joint program of the American Institute of Architects and the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards. 49 states now require completion of IDP for initial registration. The “Six-Month Rule” requires interns who open new IDP files after June 30, 2009, to submit the record of their training units to NCARB in reporting periods no longer than six months (i.e. covering up to six months of employment) and within two months of completion of that reporting period. This is important for you to remember when you enter into internships (for which you are not receiving academic credit) as you will want to record your training units within two months of completing each six month period of work. If you already have an IDP file in which you are documenting your training units, this rule will go into effect on July 1, 2010, so you may want to record your training units earlier rather than later.
